How to Travel With Your Drone Safely for Travel Drone Videography

One of the biggest reasons why drone videography rose to prominence as fast as it did is because of its prevalent use within the travel community.

More and more backpackers and travel enthusiasts are making use of drone technology to showcase the beautiful and exotic sights that they visit. These sights are impressive enough on their own but throw in the unique perspectives that drones can offer, these sights become spectacular.

Because of this, plenty of travelers are looking to include drones in their list of must-haves when making a trip somewhere. But drones are rather delicate pieces of technology, so how do you make sure that nothing happens to these when you travel? Here are some tips to help you out.

Make sure you get the legal stuff out of the way

One of the most important things that you should do when you’re traveling with a drone with the intent to shoot drone photography and videography is to look into the local drone laws and regulations.

Some countries have pretty relaxed drone laws, and some countries have stricter drone laws. Before anything else, always research the local drone laws. If you’re found violating them, you may risk a fine, or confiscation of your drone.

Bring only the essentials, and pack it properly

Some drone pilots require and purchase plenty of additional accessories for their drones. Propellers, batteries, these are all very important, especially if you’re going to be going on a long drone videography shoot.

However, when you’re traveling, make sure that you remember to pack what is needed, as there’s a good chance that you’re going to be doing a lot of traveling to get to some pretty interesting shots.

Also, make sure that you pack your drone and accessories in a good bag, not just any old backpack that you found in your closet. A good hard case can comfortably fit your drone and accessories, as well as adds an extra layer of protection while transporting your drone.

Look into airline regulations

In addition to local drone laws, you should also look into the rules that certain airlines have in place regarding drones. Some airlines require that you check in your drone, and other airlines are fine with you checking in your drone.

However, no matter what the airline’s rules are regarding drones, always carry on your drone’s batteries. If you keep them in your checked luggage, you run the risk of the batteries exploding in the cargo hold, because of the pressurized area.

Be more aware of your surroundings

Like anywhere that you choose to shoot your drone videography, you should always be aware of your surroundings, especially if you’re not familiar with the area. Anything from crowds to local wildlife can cause problems with your aerial shoot.
