Lakeland Wedding Photography: Mistakes To Avoid During A Shoot

Lakeland Wedding Photography: Mistakes To Avoid During A Shoot

by | Jun 20, 2019

You are bound to make mistakes when you’re just beginning in the Lakeland wedding photography industry. Even those who have been in the industry for long still make mistakes from time to time. There are a lot of common mistakes that can be avoided by just reading about them and studying them.

Missed Focus

If your photos are blurry, that means that you didn’t use your camera’s spot autofocus mode. Letting the camera choose your focus points will result in blurry photos because the camera may focus on the wrong part of the image.

This is impossible to fix after the photos have already been taken. This is why it’s important to nail your focus from the moment that you take the shot.

Shaky Frame

If you’re using slow shutter speed, it is highly likely that the camera will capture the shakiness of your shot. It will also reduce the sharpness of the image.

To avoid this, you must use a shutter speed that is at least equivalent to the focal length of the lens that you’re using. Make sure that your lens or camera has image stabilization so that you can shoot using three to five stops slower and still come up with a sharper image.

Awkward Pose

Most of the couples you’ll be working with are non-professional. This means that they won’t likely be comfortable posing in front of the camera. You can research poses online and ask the couples to copy them but at the end of the day, they will look stiff and unnatural.

Use the poses only as basic guidelines. What you should do is to engage the couples and try to put them at ease by talking with them and encouraging them to have fun and enjoy themselves.

Distracting Background

Have you ever found the perfect shot only to have it ruined by a telephone mast or another element such as electric lines and passersby?

While you will likely focus only on the subject, you must also focus your attention on the background. You have to make sure that there are no distracting elements that will divert the attention away from the subjects.

Backup Fail

Technology has the potential to fail. The hard drive that holds your files can get corrupted and hacked. Losing files is a major no-no for any Lakeland wedding photography business. Be sure to have a second copy of all your images. Choose either an external hard drive or a cloud storage service.
