Video is quickly becoming one of the leading mediums of marketing in plenty of industries today. The reason behind this is because a video is a very effective way to impart information in a fun format, while still being easy to understand. Because of the boom in video marketing, plenty of companies are faced with the dilemma of choosing between hiring an in-house video production team, or to use in an in-house videographer.

This isn’t a decision that you can make lightly. In order to find the right answer to this question, there are a number of factors that you have to take into consideration, such as your budget and how often you’re going to need video content created, among other things. If you find yourself faced with this decision, here are some things that you’re going to have to take into consideration.

A single videographer can’t take on an entire team’s tasks

One of the biggest problems with hiring an in-house videographer is the fact that a single videographer may not have the ability to handle the level of work that needs to be done for a professional video production.

Perhaps they have has some exposure to video work, but the amount of work it takes to work on an entire video is too much just for one person. You need an entire team to organize, shoot, and edit just one video, and having one individual isn’t going to cut it.

Having to coordinate different people can be difficult

Some companies hire different video crew from different teams and have them work together for their video projects. While this certainly does save you money, this is a bit difficult to coordinate as a whole, because these crew members are not used to working with each other.

Hiring an external full video production team may be more expensive, but you have a full team that knows exactly how to work with each other, which can really speed up the production process.

Do you have the budget for video production gear?

If you’re going to be using an in-house videographer, you’re going to need a lot of good gear in order to guarantee that you get some professional quality video. You have to remember that the kind of gear to get the kind of professional grade video you want is going to cost quite a lot.

If you decide to use an in-house employee to handle your video work, you need to make sure that you have the budget for the gear that they’re going to need.

Does your in-house videographer have the skills to tell your story?

Another thing that you have to take into consideration when choosing between an external team or an in-house videographer is the level of skill that is going to be needed to tell your company’s story and provide the marketing edge that you need.

Having produced a video or two doesn’t automatically make them an expert in the field. Meanwhile, an external team has everything you need, from the manpower, the gear, the skills, and the experience to back up their work.
