Drone videography and photography drones are quickly becoming a very popular gift for the holidays and other events. It makes sense why this has become a very popular gift, considering the fact that the drone industry has really become very popular.

Whether you’re active in the drone community or not, you are familiar with how drones have become very prominent. Because of this, more and more people are looking to invite people into the drone community by gifting them drones.

However, if this is something that you’re considering doing, you have to make sure that the person that you’re gifting the drone to is aware of certain things. To help you out, here are some things that you should know before making the decision to buy a drone for drone videography as a gift.

A drone has to be registered

If you’re based in the United States and you’re looking to buy a drone for someone, you have to know that if the drone you buy meets a certain weight requirement, it needs to be registered with the FAA.

This is a rule implemented to help keep track and identify drone in case these get lost or get in an accident while out on a drone flight. If you’re giving a drone to a child under 14, ideally, you’re going to have to take care of the registration for them as drone pilots under 14 cannot register themselves.

If your gift recipient is 14 years of age and over, they can handle the registration themselves. It’s important that they keep their drone registration on them at all times in compliance with drone rules and regulations.

There are drone rules and regulations that have to be followed

Speaking of rules and regulations, because of the rise in popularity of drone services, certain countries have begun implementing drone rules and regulations to help regulate the use of drones.

Before your gift recipient flies their drone, make sure that you have them read up on the local drone laws and regulations in order to make sure that they follow these rules at all times.

These laws and regulations are in place to help keep everyone, from the drone pilot, any bystanders, and the drone itself safe.

You might have to check the geographical location before gifting a drone

While gifting a drone for drone videography and photography seems like a fantastic gift, it would be a shame if whoever you gift it to has the opportunity to fly it. In compliance with local laws and regulations, drones cannot be flown in urban areas that have a lot of high-rise buildings.

However, if they live in a rural area with a lot of open fields, then there should be no problem. Also, you have to make sure that your drone recipient doesn’t live within 5 miles of an airport, as this is in direct violation of local drone laws.
